Did you think Winchester Science Centre was just for kids? Think again!

We're located just a short 10-minute bus ride from the centre of Winchester. And on the first Friday evening of every other month, there’ll be a live DJ, fully stocked bar, huge live science demos and an out-of-this-world journey through the stars in the Planetarium at Science Lates.

When the doors close the big kids get to play. With the lights down low and the DJ volume on high, the atmosphere is set for an evening to remember. Grab a drink from the bar and explore.

Get hands-on in the Sound, Hearing and Vibration zone. Play the ultimate acoustic song on the huge 10m long guitar. Reminisce about school days on the xylophone and metallophone. Send yourself a message from the past you in the Speed of Sound tubes. Or block out all the noise in the anechoic Scream Chamber. Challenge your friends to test their strength on the pulleys and see who can propel the ball the highest in Ball Launcher.

On the lower floor is the crashed spaceship of Explorer:Space. Do you have what it takes to brave the darkness of space and enter? Try out the life size space suit and take the astronaut training quiz. Become a lightyear DJ by finding the song playing for the year that you were born. And grab a mini spaceship ball and send it off around the Solar System in the Gravity Well – who will get the most spaceships into the gravity wells of the planets?

Fuel up with some pizza from the on-site café and be wowed by some of the Science Centre’s most epic demos. Watch as the team set fire to their hands, defy gravity and produce fireballs from bubbles. This is science you definitely can’t do at home!

And, if you’ve never set foot inside a Planetarium before, you’re in for a treat! Grab a seat, sit back and relax. A massive screen is all around you to make you feel like you’re flying through space. You’ll start on Earth under a blanket of stars before the expert Planetarium pilot whisks you off on a live tour of the Solar System. You could be soaring through the rings of Saturn or swirling around the super storm of Jupiter or getting a sneak peek of what’s up there on Mars. The adventure is limitless.

Science Lates run from 6:30pm to 10pm on the first Friday of every other month. Book your tickets now!
