Our cafés

Taste buds tingling? You'll be spoilt for choice at the Hub Café on the upper floor. Pop in for a mid-morning drink and a snack or a delicious lunch. There are sandwiches, soup, toasted paninis, jacket potatoes and nachos.

Looking for an extra special treat? Try one of our tasty cakes, biscuits or fruit. There are gluten-free and vegan options to tempt you too! There's lots of seating both inside and outside. Our tables are accessible for wheelchairs, lip-readers and if you need to keep a pushchair close by.

Or why not make a pit-stop at the Space Café on the lower floor. There are lots of quick, tasty treats and hot and cold drinks to choose from. It's perfect for a coffee break or an afternoon snack. All the tables in the Space Café are round. That means they're great if you use a wheelchair, have a pushchair or use lip reading.

We're fully allergen accessible and, as part of our pledge to protect the planet, we've made a choice to not serve meat. We've got lots of tasty vegetarian and vegan options on offer. You're still welcome to enjoy a picnic lunch with meat if that's your preference.

Picnics

Did you know that Winchester Science centre is located in the South Downs National Park? There are so many beautiful places to relax and eat outside. Our main outside picnic spot is by the Hub Café. It's on the upper level and has steps or a ramp. You'll find picnic benches and amazing views of the South Downs National Park. You'll even be eating your sandwiches in the Planetarium's shadows!

Don't worry if it rains or gets chilly when you're having your picnic outside – just pop to the Space Café. You can enjoy an indoor picnic there.

How we're working to protect the planet

We're working hard to share the message that protecting the planet is important. And one way we're doing that is through our cafés.

  • We have worked with suppliers to remove single-use plastics and reduce waste.
  • We purchase products from companies with good ethical practices.
  • We have increased vegetarian and vegan products and removed meat.
  • Our one-use water cups, coffee cups and lids are 100% compostable.
  • We have a food waste collection service so nothing goes unnecessarily to landfill.
  • Visitors can save 10% on hot drinks when they bring their own reusable cup with lid and we have water refill stations around the Centre to fill up your water bottles.

You can do your bit too. Don't forget to visit the waste station before you leave the café. Here you can dispose of your leftovers and rubbish responsibly.
