Adults, this one’s just for you! It's humans versus technology as we delve into the phenomenon that is artificial intelligence. Join us for a night of live science, exciting talks, hands-on fun and a fully stocked bar!

There’s no denying that, whether you like it or loathe it, artificial intelligence (AI) is now firmly part of our everyday lives. We command devices in our homes to play music for us, robots are serving food in restaurants and computers are planning our holidays for us. But who does it better? Humans or robots? Let’s find out at Science Lates.

Join our science Inspirers as they host intriguing live talks that delve into the topic of artificial intelligence. But which one was written by a human and which was written by AI – you, the audience will have to decide! There’ll be opportunities to try out virtual reality headsets and challenge the robots in head-to-head games. Plus, in the Lates Challenge, it’s time to programme your own bot – have you got what it takes to control the machines?

And don’t miss out on blasting off on a space adventure in the Planetarium. Fly through the stars and discover the massive scale of our solar system in an experience you’ll never forget. Plus we’ve got all the usual Science Lates fun from silent disco and fully stocked bar to the board game café and hands-on exhibit fun. Who’s joining us!

Science Lates is part of our After Dark evening events.

About Science Lates

Did you think Winchester Science Centre was just for kids? Think again! Kick off your weekend in style at Science Lates.

This is our only exclusive event for adults so we’re pulling out all the stops! Join us for a completely unique night out, each one different to the next. One visit you might be immersed into the science of horror and the next we might be taking you to a gamers paradise or into the weird and wonderful world of mysteries and illusions. Live science talks and demos will bring it all to life with hands-on experiences available throughout the night as well. And don’t miss the recurring activities from experiences in the Planetarium (these won't always be traditional shows) and a Lates Challenge hands-on competition in the Science Theatre, to the silent disco, board game café and fully stocked bar with snacks and themed cocktails.

Accessibility information for Science Lates

The Planetarium is accessible so everyone can have a special experience here. It's not super dark and you can move around, go out and come back in if you like. If you have a wheelchair, we have spaces for you to sit with seats for your family and friends. The stairs have lights to make them easy to see.

The Science Centre is completely open plan. There are doors inside the public areas to access the toilets, the Planetarium and Science Theatre. Every floor has a level surface and all the exhibits have lots of space for wheelchairs. There are seats everywhere and a roll-on-roll-off lift that's big enough for a wheelchair and carer/personal assistant.

This event is a fundraising event for Wonderseekers, the charity that runs Winchester Science Centre.
