Space discoveries are fascinating. But how have they shaped the way we view our solar system?

Come with us on an epic adventure through the stars and planets to find out.

Space Discovery is a presenter-led live show that is a perfect introduction to the stars and planets. It’s great for the whole family.

Humans have always been fascinated by space. We’ve looked up at the stars for centuries and been fascinated by what is above. But how have the discoveries we’ve made about the skies above our planet shaped the way we view our solar system?

Come with us as we shoot into orbit and make the same discoveries our ancestors made. We’ll build a picture of our solar system form the discoveries that were made throughout history. We’ll start on Earth with the realisation that the planet isn’t flat before zooming to Jupiter where the discovery of its moons changed the belief that everything revolved around Earth. And did you know that maths helped discover Neptune? Let’s find out how!

Accessibility information for Space Discovery

The Planetarium is accessible so everyone can have a special experience here. Planetarium shows are unusual and exciting experiences.  All our shows are relaxed and fun with calm presentations. We call them 'chatterbox shows'.  If you want to call out, ask questions or swap ideas with your group about what you can see, go right ahead.

It's not super dark and you can move around, go out and come back in if you like. If you have a wheelchair, we have spaces for you to sit with seats for your family and friends. The stairs have lights to make them easy to see.

We've got super 3D printed models and NASA's official tactile books. You can use them when you watch the show. We also have an induction loop. Sensitive to loud noises? You can borrow ear defenders from us before the show starts.

***On Monday 23rd December a British Sign Language interpreter will be signing during the 12pm show. And on Saturday, 11th January 2025 a British Sign Language interpreter will be signing during the 10.15am and 4pm shows. Talk to our Accessibility team so we can reserve a seat for you near the front.***
